The Internet has imparted its wisdom upon us once again in the last month or so. This time in the form of corporate music videos, learnings from Twitter, sharing secrets, and online privacy revelations. What am I referring to? Take a look at our top 4 Internet lessons below to find out!
Lesson 1: Have fun! Virgin America has spiced up the classic in-flight safety demonstration into a full-blown music video extravaganza.
On top of this video, they created an online "Safety Dance Battle" where contestants use Instagram video to audtition and are then voted for on the website. The winner will appear in the next safety video for Virgin America.
Lesson 2: Learn from your pointless social media ramblings! El Este & La Esta (This and That) is a Spanish site which computes your tweets into book recommendations. It also evaluates your reading level based on how many different words you use (and several other factors). The project is part of an initiative to encourage reading. See what they've done in this video.
The project is sponsored by Ediciones Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile in collaboration with Municipalidad de Santiago and Cámara Chilena Del Libro.
Lesson 3: Spill your dirt, anonymously. Whisper.sh has created an app for sharing secrets without revealing the users' identities. The platform has been active for over a year and has had huge success (especially in colleges and universities).
Lesson 4: Take control of online privacy. Mikko Hyppönen impressed us at TEDxBrussels this October with his reality check about cyber criminality and mainly surveillance practices currently employed by governments and corporations. If you don't know much about the subject, prepare to be stunned.
