We get quite a variety of projects at ZN and many of them are truly fascinating. Education International (EI) is one of those. With a goal of ensuring that quality education doesn’t drop from the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), EI wants to achieve something great and for the past 6 months, we’ve been happy to work hand in hand with them.
More about EI and the project
EI represents organizations of teachers and other education employees across the globe. It is the world’s largest federation of unions, representing 30 million education employees in about 400 organizations across 170 countries and territories.
Initial need
EI doesn’t want the goals of access to education for all children worldwide to drop lower on the agenda of the international community post-2015 as quality education is not yet provided everywhere. ZN was approached to map the digital landscape and gather intelligence around the issue of free and public education, particularly pertaining to the MDGs – “Ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.”
What’s in a name
After the initial intelligence gathering and digital mapping, we proposed a number of campaigning options to keep education top of mind. Phase one was to give the campaign an identity. After proposing several concepts, Unite for Education stood out as the best name. It quickly changed into Unite for Quality Education since quality education is central to all EI’s messages.
To complement the new name and enhance the identity, we also came up with several logos, one of which is now the official campaign logo.
Building a hub
The next step was to create a hub/portal for all the campaign activities around the world (up until October 2014). Thus, unite4education.org was born. The hub features a blog, a map where users can see what’s happening in their area, and also a community that will allow educators from around the globe to not only share information but also gather virtually.
The big reveal
When everything was ready, the Unite for Quality Education campaign was launched simultaneously in New York and Paris on October 4. We were proud to see the logo we created up on stage alongside Gordon Brown and other VIPs who helped launch the campaign.

What’s next?
EI is now activating the campaign worldwide and we are continuing to work with them on that front. As the project is rallying for a great cause, we are really proud to be a part of it.
