Here’s an excerpt from an amusing article by Danah Boyd entitled Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace:
“The goodie two shoes, jocks, athletes, or other “good” kids are now going to Facebook… MySpace is still home for Latino/Hispanic teens, immigrant teens, “burnouts”, “alternative kids”, “art fags”, punks, emos, goths, gangstas, queer kids, and other kids who didn’t play into the dominant high school popularity paradigm.”
So I’m a goodie two shoes. Interesting too to think that schoolyard distinctions are being transmitted to the web after years of hearing about how the web allows people who don’t fit in to adopt another persona online and really find their niche etc. Just as long as they don’t try doing it on Facebook of course!
