On Tuesday September 10th 2019, #EUinfluencer took place for the third time. Organised together with EURACTIV, the ZN social media team created a fun and engaging event.
With 150 people in the room, and thousands engaging online, it seemed like everyone wanted to be an #EUinfluencer that night…
Room packed at @EURACTIV, seems like everyone in the EU bubble wants to be an #EUinfluencer tonight 💪 🇪🇺🏆

Good luck to my favourites @StollmeyerEU @astroehlein @PoliticoRyan & as always congrats @ZNConsulting for the event! pic.twitter.com/NiP8p7nIoc
You’re encouraged to look at your phones, to tweet about #EUinfluencer, said ZN’s founder and CEO Philip Weiss
"This is the only event where we like the audience to look at their phones," says @pweiss. To tweet and send us your questions about #EUinfluencer, that is 😃 What would you like to ask EU's top digital influencers? pic.twitter.com/6CKuSrtgwO

The Brussels Bubble came to see who would be the top influencers
Heading to @EURACTIV & @ZNConsulting debate to learn from the best of the #BrusselsBubble, how to #communicate well in #SocialMedia. Who will make the top-40 list? Follow 🏆 #EUinfluencer 🇪🇺 #EnergyUnion #CleanEnergyEU #CoalRegionsEU #CleanEnergyIslands #OceanEnergy pic.twitter.com/rXnICa4cJP

And if Katie Owens was one of them…
The event started with an #EUinfluencer debate about hot topics. First up: gender… ZN’s hypermoderator Liora Kern asked: Is Twitter in the EU toxic for women? And why are there not more women on the list?
@liorakern introducing the #EUinfluencer event :
— Laurence Modrego (@europasionaria) September 10, 2019
– Complaints last year because the #EUinfluencer list was mostly male
– According to Amnesty International Twitter is a toxic place for women.
And let the debate begin !
🧐
#EUinfluencer Jon Worth responded that he thinks that yes, Twitter sadly is toxic for women.
Is Twitter a toxic place for women asks @liorakern at #euinfluencer
— Jon Worth (@jonworth) September 10, 2019
Sadly yes. I get a lot less grief than female EU nerds do.
I wonder however what’s to do with Twitter, and what’s misogyny in EU politics more generally.
Jon also asked if all the men in the audience would refuse to sit on an all-male panel (or “manel”)
So then men in #EUinfluencer audience: are you all willing to refuse to speak on an #allmalepanel? Because that’s the best start men can make here in the EU bubble
— Jon Worth (@jonworth) September 10, 2019
POLL RESULT: The audience thinks Twitter is indeed toxic, but not just for women
#EUinfluencer POLL:
— ZN (@ZNConsulting) September 10, 2019
Is Twitter in the EU toxic for women?
After the event there is wide consensus: #NoMoreManels
Following the #EUinfluencer gender debate I propose that we fight all male panels by:
— Liora Kern (@liorakern) September 11, 2019
*Checking the balance of a panel before accepting
*Adding #NoMoreManels 💪 to your signature
*Putting female colleagues forward @jonworth @PabloPerezA @astroehlein @gpaccardo @Kinsellas
Very soon that night #EUinfluencer was number-1 Trending Topic on Twitter.
#EUinfluencer debate is in full swing and we love it!

ZN’s social media team was covering #EUinfluencer on all channels, including Instagram Stories, showing how this channel can be used for event coverage in a clever and up-to-date manner:
The influencers then continued to discuss if populists are ruining democracy using social media
No says, Diogo Pereira
No. Populists might have more social attention, but democracy is more than that. There's a clear responsibility for institutions and people to try to break that social attention. #euinfluencer https://t.co/A0qfbdys1v
— Diogo Pereira 🏳️🌈 (@diogos_p) September 10, 2019
The people who took the poll don’t all agree, 54% (yes + yes, but) think that populists are ruining democracy using social media
#EUinfluencer POLL
— ZN (@ZNConsulting) September 10, 2019
Are populists ruining democracy with twitter?
Then the last topic: How will the new EU use Twitter as a political tool?
Next in #EUinfluencer we have a debate about how the new #EU will use Twitter as a political tool pic.twitter.com/7rvJR6AIm1
— ZN (@ZNConsulting) September 10, 2019
Twitter is the new TV of politics and that’s a good thing, according to number-2 #EUinfluencer Florian Eder

And yes, Katie Owens did win. Number-1 #EUinfluencer in the Food and Drink category and number 2 in healthcare, and number 11 overall digital influencer.
#1 in Food & Drink, #2 in Healthcare and #11 overall #EUinfluencer is @ktowens 🏆 Owens is a specialist in online engagement. She connects people both on #socialmedia and with the #EUtweetUp 🔝 pic.twitter.com/FrL5VVbVQB

Katie had to run off quickly to prepare for the #VaccinationSummit19 she organised the following days. We provided a social media training.

All in all, #EUinfluencer amounted in over 8 million impressions of the #EUinfluencer hashtag and over a 1000 retweets with enormous exposure for the ZN brand and name.
We showed the Brussels hemisphere our expertise in digital strategy, branding, influencer mappings and social media. And we made it fun and tweetable.
How many Brussels events have their own emoji wall, really?
We have an #emoji goodie wall 🙌 Our audience can take their favourite and tweet it using #EUinfluencer. What emoji do you use the most? pic.twitter.com/oXLsBDnsBT
