FoodDrinkEurope is an industry organization that represents Europe’s food and drink sector. It is tasked with facilitating the development of an environment in which all of its members, whatever their size, can meet the needs of consumers and society, while competing effectively for sustainable growth.

For this account, ZN was tasked with designing a comprehensive communications campaign for FoodDrinkEurope that was centered around social media but included designing online and offline events, overseeing multiple website development projects, creating engagement tools, and launching mini campaigns, all with the aim of engaging the client’s key stakeholders, members, policymakers, and the public at large.

Creative concept and method

ZN has supported this important association in many different ways. For example, we were tasked with designing a comprehensive communications campaign for FoodDrinkEurope that was centered around social media but included designing online and offline events. We oversaw multiple website development projects, creating engagement tools, and launching mini campaigns, all with the aim of engaging FoodDrinkEurope’s key stakeholders, members, policymakers, and the public at large.

Social media and hashtags

This specific campaign was centered around 5 key websites that dealt with relevant topics, including good nutrition, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, food waste, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the circular economy. ZN built these websites from scratch, taking charge of everything from UI and UX design, web development, content creation, testing, to maintenance. For each topic area, ZN also built a separate communications campaign that centered around key messages and a hashtag that was promoted via posts on several social media channels.

These were the campaigns we designed and implemented for FoodDrinkEurope:

  • #EatAndLiveWell, which communicated and engaged in topics related to nutrition, portion sizes, responsible marketing, consumer information, healthy lifestyles, and more.
  • #UN #SDGs, which communicated on topics related to the European food and drink sector’s role in achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and their overall importance for this continent.
  • #SmallScaleBigImpact, which communicated the essential role small and medium enterprises play in the food and drink sector and for Europe broadly.
  • #EveryCrumbCounts, which explained the importance of reducing food waste.
  • #CircularEconomy, which communicated on the efforts the food and drink sector has made to increase circularity and sustainability across its supply chain.

In addition to the 5 flagship campaigns ZN designed and implemented for FoodDrinkEurope, we also created the #FoodDrinkExplained​ campaign, which through strategically designed assets—both static and animated—we communicated how common food items such as potato crisps and ketchup are produced. This campaign was particularly successful, seeing the following results:

Events and special projects

In the offline world, ZN helped FoodDrinkEurope to design, organize and implement some of its most important events, including its annual reception and its event on the importance of the EU single market. Of course, ZN never missed the opportunity to use FoodDrinkEurope events as part of the online communications campaign. We recorded videos of attendees, captured impactful speeches on social media, and used creative games and a quiz about the single market to engage the audience during and long after the event.
